Relationships benefit when parents, adult children use multiple communication channels – Science Daily

“Call your mother” may be the familiar refrain, but research from doctoral communication studies student, Jennifer Schon, shows that texting, tweeting and even Snapchatting with mom and dad can lead to deeper relationships. Schon found that adult children who reported high satisfaction in relationships with their parents use multiple channels to communicate with them. Frequency and ease of communication are key factors and findings show communicating on at least three channels has the greatest impact on the relationship. Schon's study expands on previous research at KU, which showed friends with closer relationships used more channels to communicate. Schon's study was the first to look at communication between young adults and their parents.
