Visual art students wrap up commissioned public sculpture project - Gardner Edge

To celebrate its centennial year, the Kansas City Federal Reserve Bank commissioned a sculpture from the KU Visual Art department. For the past four semesters, more than 50 students, staff and faculty have been hard at work on its creation. The sculpture, “An Abounding Asset: A Diligent Reserve,” was unveiled on November 15. Led by Matthew Burke, visual art professor and sculptor, the project provided a rare professional opportunity for enrolled students. Students learned there is much more involved in a project of this scale than just creation, he said. It forced students to think about how to pack, ship, document and record, along with many other things that go into placing an art piece into the world.
